Stuff - a - Bus! |

As
children enter kindergarten, they suddenly enter this wonderful world of
reading and writing. However, many children walk through their classroom
door on the first day of school with no real idea what reading is all
about. Books? Why are those important? Literacy
begins in the home, before children ever step into a classroom. And when
parents show their children that reading and writing can be fun, as well
as being important, children will be more willing to read and write on
their own. There are many ways that parents can introduce literacy to their children at home, and to help, we would like to offer a few ideas! |

Every
year hundreds of children in Oswego County enter school without the
necessary school supplies, hundreds more will run out of the necessary
supplies before the school year is over. Imagine
the embarrassment of the child who doesn’t have the school supplies
they need. Imagine the humility of the parent who must choose between
providing their child with food and clothing versus the school supplies
they need. Children
today face obstacles and barriers that force them to be ostracized by
their peers. Many children become overwhelmed and withdraw from their
peers and their studies. The
United Way and Success By 6 have teamed up for the last 3 years for an
annual Stuff-A- Bus! Campaign to reduce the number of children starting
school without the necessary supplies.
We bring together local businesses, member agencies, churches,
school districts and community members to raise School supplies so that
no child has to come to school unprepared, or embarrassed. The
campaign is highly successful and grows bigger every year. This year we
had 5 busses placed at various businesses to raise enough supplies to
serve over 900 children in Oswego County. The
success of this campaign relies on the community. Your willingness to
donate your time, money and energy to this campaign
